Cancer Treatment  – The division’s mission is to establish a regional network of cancer treatment to provide high quality of medical interventions and advanced services to patients in southern Taiwan. In order to achieve this goal, their hospital established a Radiation Oncology Center. It was outfitted with the state-of-the-art radiation therapy technology, including two linear accelerators with three photon and five electron energy levels, image-guided intensity modulated radiation tomotherapy, CT simulator with PET-CT and MRI image fusion software, 3-D inverted treatment planning system, remote after-loading brachytherapy system, and brain and extracranial stereotactic radiosurgery system, among others.

Clinical studies have shown that radiation therapy is effective in treating cancers of the nasopharynx, cervix, prostate, and is an important adjunct to surgery, chemotherapy and tumor embolization for treating tumors of the head and neck, breast, liver, lung and brain. Effecting local tumor control and extending the cancer patients’ time of survival are the major goals for their radiation oncologists.
