Procedure

Total body lift becomes a requirement when skin texture on the entire body has given up to stretching, particularly from weight loss or age.  Most people choose the body lift surgery as it is a powerful boost to their appearance, self-esteem, and long-term health.

A trunkal body lift, also known as a belt lipectomy, is the circumferential removal and fat reduction of excess skin and fat around the waistline or "belt" of an individual. This could be described as a tummy tuck.

The procedure involves removing loose skin from the stomach and sides. To clarify this extensive skin removal has the advantage of lifting the buttocks and removing any loose skin above them.  In addition the fat from this area can be used to lift the buttocks and restore a flattened appearance to the buttocks. Similarly the patient is usually in a prone position (belly-down) during surgery. After that once the posterior buttocks, lower back and abdominal surgery are complete, the abdomen or abdominal "tummy tuck" can then be performed.

In short, most people choose the body lift surgery as it is a powerful boost to their appearance, self-esteem, and long-term health.

Length

The average time in surgery for this procedure can take from three and a quarter to five hours.

Anesthesia

General anesthesia is the most common, but spinal anesthesia can also be an option.

Inpatient/Outpatient

Due to the nature of the procedure, an overnight stay is often required.

Possible side effects

Broken suture line above the buttocks due to patient's tendency toward bending at the waist while performing hygiene. This strains the suture closure and pulls it apart. This causes a larger scar in the posterior area. There may be some numbness in the area below and above the incisions.

As with all surgery, scarring is imminent. The more skin that is removed, the more extensive the scars are. Depending on procedure, this can extend from along the lower abdomen, around the hips, and toward the buttock crease. There is another scar in each groin crease due to the inner thigh lift.  Though scar healing is completely individualistic, the transition towards feeling good about yourself is well worth it.

There are risks

As with any surgical procedure there is some risk.  For instance possible infection, delayed wound healing, asymmetry, and other medical complications, these risks are the exact same as for conventional abdominoplasty.  It is important to follow all instructions and advice given to you by the surgeon before and after the surgery.

Selecting patients carefully and with help from the most skilled surgeons and nurses will help to minimize risk and complications.  However, despite the highest standards, complications can still occur. If you have concerns, please discuss them with your doctor.

Recovery

As with all surgery, scarring is imminent, therefore the more skin that is removed, the more extensive the scars are. Depending on the procedure, this can extend from along the lower abdomen, around the hips, and toward the buttock crease. In addition, there is another scar in each groin crease due to the inner thigh lift. The recovery process is longer for this procedure because you must avoid bending at your waist for one month to ensure adequate healing.

Results
