About Malaysia

Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country known for its beautiful beaches and rainforests, and a unique cultural blend influenced by a mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European settlers. Because Malaysia was a long-time British colony until 1957, Western culture is ingrained throughout the country. English is universally and comfortably spoken.

Tourist attractions abound, particularly in capital of Kuala Lumpur ,which is home to colonial buildings, busy shopping districts such as Bukit Bintang and skyscrapers like the iconic, 451m-tall Petronas Twin Towers. The islands of Penang and Malacca are two favorite international beach resorts and health travel destinations as well.

Healthcare in Malaysia

In 2016, more than one million medical travelers visited Malaysia. In response to the steady growth of medical tourism in Malaysia, Malaysia has to continue improving its healthcare services infrastructure and quality while keeping prices low. All private medical facilities in Malaysia are required to be licensed under the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 and work closely with the Ministry of Health, which monitors compliance and establishes benchmarks and regulations for quality assurance. Malaysia now has six JCI-accredited hospitals, with aggressive plans for private facility expansion over the next five years.

While visiting for a wide range of procedures and treatments, many international patients take advantage of the inexpensive and highly thorough physicals offered by most Malaysian private hospitals during their medical tourism in Malaysia. These hospitals were the creators of “well-man” and “well-woman” packages: comprehensive, low-cost physicals, screenings and other tests promoting preventive care. A wide array of tests and exams, including blood work, bone density scan, chest x-ray, and treadmill can be had for around $500.
