Overview – The A.C. Camargo Cancer Center was opened on April 23, 1953 and has a great track record in combating cancer. Leader in scientific knowledge about oncology, it is an international reference center in teaching, research and multidisciplinary treatment.

The Cancer Hospital was designed by the modernist architect Rino Levi.  On April 23, 1953, the first hospital in São Paulo was built, built with the population’s money, and destined for it, without connection to any official Brazilian health institution, without financial support from any religious organization, nor sponsorship of colonies. of immigrants, as was usual.

The new hospital brought to São Paulo the most advanced set of equipment for the diagnosis of cancer. It would offer radiography, endoscopy, pathological anatomy and radiotherapy. There was also a body of surgeons, the backbone of the Cancer Hospital. The surgeries performed by these doctors and their teams, in the five operating rooms of the Surgical Center, on the 10th floor, would spread feelings of respect and hope for the cure of cancer throughout the building.

Their doctors and scientists work together to develop research that will be applied in the future of oncology. The search for the best results for each patient is possible when the therapies are based on scientific evidence. They have the most important private cancer research center in the country. They train specialists to be able to share knowledge and contribute to the evolution of the fight against the disease.

They have been pioneers in Nuclear Medicine in Brazil since the 1960s and we were also the first to use the PET-CT exam with 18F-FDG in oncology. It is a medical specialty that uses radiation in both diagnostic tests and treatments . It is based on biochemical reactions of human metabolism: the patient receives a small amount of radioactive material that, in contact with certain substances, will react and indicate the presence of cancer in Organs examined organs. The images reveal, by the concentration of the substance, where the tumors are, what their dimensions are, whether or not they are active.
Oncogenetics – The main objective of the Department of Oncogenetics is to identify people with rare tumors or who are at increased risk of developing cancer due to genetic changes, often due to the high incidence of the disease in the family.
Chemotherapy – is a treatment modality that uses specific drugs for the destruction of cancer cells. As they act in several stages of cellular metabolism, medications reach malignant cells in any part of the body, in order to decrease or stop the activity of the tumor.
Interventional Radiology –  is a medical subspecialty that uses radiology not only for diagnosis, but also for the treatment of treatment of various diseases through the association of clinical and surgical principles.
Radiotherapy – is a treatment that uses radiation to destroy or prevent the growth of tumor cells, to control bleeding and pain and to reduce tumors that are compressing other organs. During applications, you will not be able to see the radiation, nor will you feel pain.
