Procedure

Mastopexy also known as breast lift surgery involves removing excess skin around the breasts that has been stretched due to pregnancy, aging or weight fluctuations.  To achieve the desired result, breast implants may be used with this procedure.  A breast lift will lift your breasts up into a more desired position.

A Breast lift is effective for lifting and reshaping breasts, both for smaller breasts and larger breasts. Smaller breasts often have a longer life expectancy than larger breasts, because the weight of the larger breasts works against the changes that are achieved during surgery.

The most common procedure is to remove excess skin and raise the nipple so that it sits higher on the breast mound. The number and lengths of incisions will also determine the amount of lift required. The more lift needed, the more likely you will need more extensive incisions.

A breast lift is permanent, however over time, breast shape and size will change with gravity and during the stages of life such as; ageing, weight loss/gain and pregnancy.

Length

The procedure can take approximately two to three hours.

Anesthesia

When the general anesthesia is administered you will be unconscious. However you may also have intravenous sedation or local anesthesia.

Inpatient/Outpatient

Both are options however it will depend on your health and the surgeons preference.

Possible side effects

Possible side effects may range from; temporary swelling, bruising, mild discomfort, numbness and dry/tender breasts.

There are risks

As with any surgical procedure there is some risk. Unfavorable scarring can occur due to keloid formations. In addition, permanent loss of sensation in the breasts or nipples, skin loss and infection are all possible risks.

Selecting patients carefully and with help from the most skilled surgeons and nurses will help to minimize risk and complications.  However, despite the highest standards, complications can still occur. If you have concerns, please discuss them with your doctor.

Recovery

You can return to work in a matter of weeks.  After one month, they can resume strenuous activities. In addition, any discomfort will disappear in a few days, but each person's recovery time is different. Subsequently, it may take several months or even a year for scars to fade.

Results

A Breast Lift is a permanent improvement in breast shape and size. Each patient's outcome will vary and gravity, pregnancy, weight changes, and aging can all have an impact on the outcome. In addition, these factors can also cause new sagging. However breast implants can help enhance results and prolong the life expectancy of your breasts. Similarly they also provide support for the breast tissue.

Cost of Breast Lift

Costs of a breast lift can vary based on surgeon fees, anesthesia used, inpatient (hospital) or outpatient (day surgery), implant type (if requested), method of insertion, and package inclusions.  Please ask your consultant for verification on what is/is not included.
